Stay At Home Mom Businesses
Stay at home mom businesses can offer a great alternative to moms who want to contribute to the household finances, but don't want to, or aren't able to enter employment. It may be the case that you really don't want to leave your child with someone else; or it could be that low pay and high childcare costs make the proposition non-viable. Here I share my ideas of the various options available.
Three Basic CategoriesWhen considering businesses that can be worked from home, there are three basic categories to think about: start-up, franchise or going concern. Now each of these types of businesses have their pros and cons, so I'll outline them briefly. Start Up A start up is a business that you start from scratch to your own specification. The advantages are that there is infinite flexibility as to the form and style of your business, you have total control over your business and, depending on the business model they can have lower start up costs. The disadvantage is that start ups have a high failure rate and it can be a long time before you see any return on your investment. Franchise There are many stay at home mom businesses that are franchises. These have the advantages of being a ready made business model, with support from the franchisor and are often well known brands that you can have instant credibility with. The disadvantage of a franchise as they usually have a fairly high investment, though some multi-level marketing companies demand only a relatively small investment. Going Concern The other option is to buy an already established business. This of course should be easier, but will also be significantly more expensive. There are many sites online where you can browse business for sale, and many of them can be run from home. I have personal experience of both start up and franchise business, and have had more success with start up!
