Remember that wonderful feeling when you gazed at your newborn full of awe and wonder that such a little bundle of perfection is all yours!? I'm sure you do. I think the joy of motherhood is all that and the lovely positive feeling that life is good, purposeful and fulfilling. Don't we all want that feeling? That lovely
mother love
feeling.....all the time?
Arghhhh.........I'm Stressed!!!
The trouble is that life as a mom can be so busy and stressful that we end up short tempered and unhappy. We can lose sight of
the gift of motherhood.
Children tend to be pretty demanding and often we're sleep deprived. We may not get the support we need from our partner and we just end up feeling put upon by everyone, pulled in too many directions.
I know that I had lost that joy of motherhood in the midst of my troubles, my feelings were even more extreme: I was overwhelmed, barely coping with the terrible pain of being separated from my two eldest sons. I became totally negative about the world and myself and other people. I felt so different from the
happy moms.
The big change came for me when I watched
"The Secret" movie.
Wow, I Can Change My Life!
I learned that I did actually have control over my life. It gave me great hope for a better future. From that point I began to take back my life and started to make it into something good, and you can too.
If you're feeling overwhelmed by the endless demands of being a mother, feeling a loss of control over your life, know that you can change things for the better.
Motherhood is amazing, we just need to take time to look after ourselves and think about how we really want to live. What I found really helped me was to sit down and think about what my ideal life would look like.
Brian Tracy, in his audio "The Ultimate Goals Program", calls it "blue sky thinking". To start off you imagine that there are no limits on your capabilities and resources.
My Perfect Life
I wrote down in great detail what my perfect life would be like: my home, my relationships, my work, my health and fitness, my income and my spirituality. I got really excited and emotional because you know what: there really are no limits on us other than those we place on ourselves. We all have much much greater potential than we ever imagine.
Knowing what you want out of life can help you to feel in control and that will increase your happiness levels, especially when you start taking steps towards achieving those goals. You might even start
celebrating life with children
instead of feeling overwhelmed by it!
Getting The Vision
Once I had some concrete goals I wanted to work towards, I got going on my vision board: I got a pin board and cut out some pictures of the outcome I wanted to achieve. I also wrote some affirmations to put underneath each picture.
Perhaps I'll make this clearer if I give you an example of one of my goals. I wanted to get back into a size 12(UK) dress, so I found a clip-art photo of a slim woman and wrote underneath it: I have a lovely slim size 12 body. If you want to take this to the next level you can cut out the head from a photo of yourself and place it over the head of the clip-art woman, so that it looks like you already have the slim size 12 body!
When I completed my vision board, (I had eight goals represented on there) I put it up in my bedroom where I see it at least at the beginning and end of every day.
Really Making A Change
The vision board is a great tool to help you make positive changes in your life and rediscover the joy of motherhood. Within a few months of putting up my goals on the board I beat my goal by shrinking to a size 10(UK)!
