Celebrating Motherhood
Celebrating motherhood refers to both mothers celebrating their role, and families and society at large celebrating mothers and what they do. Recognising Our Own Importance I guess it can be quite hard to celebrate our role when society generally undervalues what we do, but we must for our own sakes learn to do it. We shouldn't take our cue from the outside world that values money over everything else. What we do is nurture the next generation and therefore shape the future of our societies; what could be more important than that?
Take TimeWe can celebrate motherhood by taking the time to enjoy everything we do, even the bits that are boring! At the end of the day, the only moment we've got is right now. If we spend our time dwelling on the past or dreaming about the future our lives will drift by before we know it, and we won't have been fully present! Mindfulness It's called
mindfulness.
It's about being fully aware of what's happening both around and within you all the time. A good example is washing up. If you're anything like me your mind probably drifts off somewhere because the task is pretty mundane. Mindful Washing Up! Mindfully washing up would entail really immersing yourself in the sensations of the task: the feel of the hot water and the soap suds on your hands, the sound of the water and the tiny little pops of the soap bubbles, the feel of the smooth plate under your fingers etc. Live With Purpose This awareness of living allows us to get out of the rut of living subconsciously and out of habit, reacting only to the programs received in our infancy and instead take conscious control of our lives. It allows us to live with intention and purpose and bring out the creativity and talent that is buried inside us. Then we can start celebrating motherhood. My Unconscious Life I lived life for years unconsciously, and I was unhappy. I was going through life angry at the world because of what had happened to me, but unaware that I had brought it to me. I was so busy blaming others that I couldn't see that I had the power to bring about a change. I Changed My Focus Then I watched a movie that told me I had to focus on what I want, instead of focusing on what I've got that I don't want. It was a revelation I can tell you! Our mind is such a powerful thing, our subconscious mind actually drives our life, so we need to re-programme it with what we want. A Magic Key We can find it a lot easier to celebrate motherhood when we accept our life as it is and start to feel gratitude for it. It is almost like a magic key to making a better life. When you start to feel grateful for what you've already got you'll be in a better position to focus on what new things you want to achieve. Gratitude Journal Writing a journal, noting down the things that you can be grateful for will help you to change your mindset and put you in a more positive space. You will be able to
celebrate life with children
, instead of feeling resentful and annoyed with it.
Celebrating Motherhood In addition to mothers celebrating themselves, society celebrates mothers too, at least once a year! Mothers Day is a special day, set aside in many cultures to recognise the role of mothers. A Opportunity to Thank Mothers This is the opportunity for children and partners to really appreciate the wonderful giving woman in their life. Mothers Day is celebrated in very many countries and has a long history. Mothers are given the day off and pampered by their families. Mothers Day There are many different mothers day traditions around the world. In many cultures mothers day greeting cards are given, and often flowers. If you're anything like me you find it hard to sit back and be waited on in your own home; but we need to accept and enjoy it!
